Argentina Officially Launches Citizenship by Investment Framework
Aug 1, 2025

Argentina has formally established a legal route for foreign investors to obtain its nationality. This marks the country’s first structured Citizenship by Investment (CBI)framework, designed to attract capital while safeguarding national interests.
The move comes just weeks after President Javier Milei’s administration first proposed the initiative in May 2025, signalling that the government sees it as a priority within its wider economic reform strategy.
Details on Investments Yet to Come
While the decree outlines the administrative framework, it stops short of defining the minimum investment amounts or eligible sectors. These specifics will be determined by the Ministry of Economy in forthcoming regulations, meaning applications cannot yet be submitted.
According to the government, the program aims to “stimulate economic activity and create employment,” aligning with broader pro-market reforms introduced under the Milei administration.
Potential Boost from U.S. Visa Waiver Ambitions
Interest in the Argentine passport could rise sharply if the country’s July 29, 2025 bid to rejoin the U.S. Visa Waiver Program succeeds. Such approval would grant visa-free access to the United States, significantly increasing the program’s appeal for globally mobile investors.
An Element of Milei’s Economic Agenda
The government has framed the program as a way to attract strategic investment while adhering to international security and compliance standards, with the ultimate goal of strengthening Argentina’s economic position on the global stage.
Argentina’s CBI framework is now officially in place, but investors must wait for the release of investment criteria and the completion of technical preparations before the application process opens. If combined with U.S. visa-free access, the initiative could become one of the most compelling new offerings in the global citizenship market.
